Support & Wellbeing for Australian Musicians
A music career can be precarious. Here's where to find crisis relief grants, free counselling and mental health support through Support Act — available to musicians across every genre.
A music career can be precarious, and the industry has built a safety net for the hard times. The charity at the centre of it is Support Act, and its help is available to musicians right across the country — no matter your genre or your CV.
Crisis Relief Grants
Support Act provides financial help when illness, injury, mental health or another crisis stops you working: "Crisis Relief Grants and support are available to musicians, managers, crew and music workers across all genres experiencing financial hardship."
The help is practical rather than a cash handout: "direct payment of bills or other personal expenses related to the crisis, rather than cash grants." Eligibility and how to apply are on the Crisis Relief Grants page.
The Wellbeing Helpline
You do not have to be in crisis to reach out. The Support Act Wellbeing Helpline is a phone counselling service for anyone in music or the arts: "The Support Act Wellbeing Helpline is a free, confidential Australia-wide counselling service for anyone working in the music and creative industries."
"The service provides up to 12 free counselling sessions per person, with appointments generally available at times that suit your needs." You can call 1800 959 500 from anywhere in Australia.
More from Support Act
Beyond crisis grants and the helpline, Support Act runs mental health training, funeral help, tax help and First Nations-specific support. If you or someone you care about is in immediate danger, call 000.
